Our journey through life is an opportunity to develop Love as the fulfillment of human freedom. As we grow, we descend into matter, identifying ever more with our bodies and with the demands of our life on earth. Through the course of life we pass through cycles of development, marked by 7-year cycles that correspond to the powers of the 7 major planets. DEEPENING COURSES IN ANTHROPOSOPHY
Those who have begun their studies in Anthroposophy know that Rudolf Steiner has brought spiritual insights in such a modern and novel way that we can continue to draw insights and inspirations from them our whole lives. Explore with Cynthia subjects such as The Birth of Time and Space, the Spiritual Hierarchies, Esoteric Christianity and more.
Other classes besides the ones listed below are also available. Contact Cynthia with your inquiries.

  • A New Cosmology

One of Cynthia’s most inspiring opics is the study of “the greatest story ever told: from the beginning of time to the fulfillment of the ages.” Based on Rudolf Steiner’s “An Outline of Esoteric Science,” her course is an inspiring journey into the key concepts of anthroposophy and the meaning of life. This theme provides the foundation for understanding the four temperaments, the four elements, the four kingdoms of nature, the gifts of creative spiritual beings for world evolution, and more!

Minimum: 2 day workshop. Maximum: 5-10 day workshop, both with eurythmy

  • Life between Death and Rebirth

Where do we “go” when we leave this earth, and whence do we “come” when we appear? Drawing on the inspired work of Rudolf Steiner, we will study what happens after death, as we must learn step by step to withdraw from the world of the senses. Gradually we become free to leave the earth-sphere, and we behold the spiritual world with clear vision. We pass through the realms of the planetary spheres, immersing ourselves in their teachings and absorbing whatever of their wisdom we can. When we return to the earth, we bring with us our own self-acknowledged shortcomings and the intentions we have to correct our shortcomings and develop ever more love on earth. This is the meaning of Karma and Reincarnation.

Minimum: 2 day workshop  Maximum: 5-10 day workshop, with eurythmy

  • Understanding spiritual beings. Who is the Archangel Michael?

We are not the only conscious beings in the universe. Through the work of Rudolf Steiner, we have insights to help us understand higher levels of spiritual beings, those who do not need to live in physical bodies to be conscious. These include both kindly and deterrent beings. Of those beings who support human beings, the Archangel Michael is the leader for the development of freedom, teaching us to learn to think with the heart. Learn about his work with the heavenly Sophia, and his mission in our present age.

Minimum: 1.5 hour workshop  Maximum: 2 day workshop, with eurythmy

  • The Human Being and the Stars: the Macrocomos and the Microcosmos

Ancient wisdom has long taught that the being has been made in the image of the cosmos. Rudolf Steiner offered a “new star wisdom,” showing how we can trace the working of the planets and constellations in our physiology and in our soul qualities. These studies come wonderfully alive when combined with the movement art of eurythmy, in which we learn that each planet bears the archetype of a particular vowel, and each constellations offers the formative quality of the constellations.

Minimum: 1.5. hour workshop  Maximum: 5-10 day workshop, with eurythmy

  • The Logos: the Creating Cosmic Word

Many creation philosophies and mythologies tell that the world came into being when God, the World Creator, spoke the original Word of Creation. This Cosmic Creative Word, or “Logos” was God’s most powerful and intimate manifestation. This study unlocks for us a deep understanding of nature, spirit, Christianity, and eurythmy, in which the Cosmic Creative Word comes alive again in human movement.

Minimum: 2 day workshop  Maximum: 5-7 day workshop, with eurythmy

  • The Quest for the Holy Grail

The Holy Grail is a symbol for the purified soul and body of the spiritual seeker, who will shirk no trial and no task for the sake of evolving consciousness and capacities to put into the service of human evolution. Knights and maidens, heroes and heroines, common folk and nobility are all equal partners on the journey of sacred self-development.

Minimum: 1.5 hour Workshop   Maximum: 3 day workshop, with eurythmy

PART I:

BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS:  Cynthia Hoven pursued her university degrees in Science and Psychology with the intent of doing postgraduate work in Parapsychology. She interrupted her studies to seek the ancient sources of spirituality in the Far East, spending two years traveling through Europe, the Middle East, India and Nepal, Indochina and Japan. Upon returning to the United States, she chose to shift her focus to work with the healing arts, and began her studies in Eurythmy, with the intention of doing postgraduate work in Therapeutic University. She completed these trainings in 1982, and sought work opportunities in as many and diverse professional settings in Europe as possible, in preparation for future work in America. She thus gained experience not only in performing eurythmy, but also in working as a therapeutic eurythmist with psychiatric patients (Friedrich Husemann Klinik), children with special needs (Camphill Community), and general medicine (Ita Wegman Klinik). Upon returning to the United States, she relocated in the Sacramento area, and joined with a medical doctor and others to co-found the Raphael Therapy Center, a collaborative work of professional trained in anthroposophical medical modalities. She simultaneously sought collaborative opportunities for working with Rudolf Steiner College and with the Sacramento Waldorf School. To continue her deep commitment to eurythmy as a performing art, she co-founded the Sacramento Eurythmy Performing Group, and helped direct, organize and perform in tours throughout the west coast during the 1980’s.

In 1992 the focus of her work shifted towards adult education, as she became a faculty member of Rudolf Steiner College, lecturing on anthroposophical topics and teaching eurythmy in all programs. In the 1990’s she gained her Master’s Degree, based on the thesis “Eurythmy: Making Speech Visible.” She also worked as principle colleague in a small eurythmy training in northern California which closed in 2000.

By 2002, in response to a perceived need for a professional eurythmy training at Rudolf Steiner College, she sought and gained support to inaugurate such a program, in collaboration with the Section for Performing Arts in Dornach, Switzerland, and under the sponsorship of the Eurythmeum Stuttgart in Germany, through mentor Michael Leber. The four year training graduated three classes of students, in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Electing to expand her fields of associations to other groups seeking the same aims, she works with youth associations and groups working with World Café, Open Space, Dynamic Facilitation techniques and the like. She is part of an international network of community activists for social change, and serves as personal assistant for global leader Edgard Gouveia, Jr., the Brazilian designer of playthecall.com.

Her current work focuses on finding a way to open the path of eurythmy to any individual who is interested in practicing it for a personal path of self-transformation. To this end, she offers workshops to teach people how to work with it on their own and in their communities, and has created the online eurythmy website www.eurythmyonline.com.

Interests and Assets: Cynthia is passionate about working with the art of eurythmy as an experience for the individual to perceive the creative forces in self and world, and to learn how to work with them in an aesthetic, harmonizing expressive art. She specializes in teacher eurythmy to adults, as well as in therapeutic eurythmy. Her capacity to perceive sensitively, speak warmly, and direct effectively allows her to work with a broad spectrum of students. She also enjoys teaching about spirituality from the perspective of anthroposophy to the public, striking a note that is neither dogmatic nor casual. Cynthia is deeply committed to furthering her professional and personal work through the path of spiritual science.
